What's new? Well how about a brand new building! We love getting to have our own space. If you haven't visited the library lately please stop by and say hello. Celebrating Shakespeare!In honor of the 400 year anniversary of Shakespeare's death this past April, upper grades learned about the incredible influence he had our English language. Have you heard this one lately? “Thou art a boil, a plague sore, an embossed carbuncle in my corrupted blood" - King Lear
Okay, maybe not, but you may have said one of these familiar phrases and if so, you have Shakespeare to thank.

Born April 26, 1564 in the time of Queen Elizabeth I and plagues, Shakespeare wrote 37 plays and introduced more than 1500 unique words to the English language. He was quite fashionable (as you can see) and sported a gold hoop earring in his left ear.
The upper grade kids got to experience the fun and funny side of Shakespeare by creating their own skits using Shakespearean style insults. You can have fun with this at home. Alliterate Me!April was poetry month and we have been looking at alliteration poems in lower grades. An alliteration occurs when you place two or more words in a row starting with the same sounds.
Some of our favorite alliteration poems are in the form of tongue twisters. For example:
Alliterations Contest! Have you heard there is an alliteration contest? First, second and third graders have been challenged to create an alliteration to represent their grade. The only requirement is that it is an alliteration and that it have their grade as inspiration. For instance, Fantastic first grade found funny phrases! or Super sassy second grade said silly sayings! or The thrilling third grade thought of thankful things! The winner will get to read his or her awesome alliteration to the school on our June 3 flag salute! |
